These questions get asked alot and people are getting tired of sounding like broken records. Here is a breakdown of the most FAQ’s, with answers, on the page:

Is there a Sekirei Season 3?:  No, one is currently not being made at this time.

D.Gray-man Season 3?:  In licensing hell right now.

Will you save Case Closed?:  No, the series sold poorly and is on permanent hiatus. Best bet would be to ask another company.

Anymore Shin-chan/Kodocha/When They Cry?:  All of these shows have been indefinitely discontinued.

Deadman Wonderland Season 2?:  Sold poorly in Japan. Highly unlikely.

Rosario + Vampire Season 3?:  Japan hated the Anime of this series and it sold very poorly. Season 3 is EXTREMELY unlikely.

More Soul Eater?:  There definitely won’t be a continuation of the TV series, yet a reboot is possible in the future.

More Fairy Tail?:  Season 2 has been licensed (24 episodes) plus the movie. Expect home releases to start coming out in 2013.

Evangelion 3.0?:  Has yet to debut in Japan. Currently unlicensed.

Dragon Ball Z 2013 movie?:   Barely even exists; Funimation can’t license something that is currently in production. Ask them for it in March 2013.

New Sailor Moon Anime?:  Also barely exists. Won’t debut in Japan until next summer. Asking about it is a waste of time so wait till Summer 2013.

More Heaven’s Lost Property?:  Season 3 has been green-lit in Japan. Hasn’t debuted yet so currently unlicensed.

More Hetalia?:  Season 5 has been green-lit in Japan. Hasn’t debuted yet so currently unlicensed.

Could you play “insert Funimation Anime name” on Toonami?:  Not up to Funimation. Ask Toonami.

Dragon Ball Z Blu-rays?:  Production suspended at this time due to high costs.

Can you please dub Pandora Hearts/ToraDora/Kimi no Todoke?:  Not happening because NIS America owns those shows.

Gundam Franchise?:   Bandai still owns it.

Rescue Bandai titles (Cowboy Bebop, .hack franchise, Gurren Lagann, etc)?:  Can’t until the licenses officially expire.

Where can I watch “insert Anime name” for free or pay a monthy subscription for HD?:, Crunchyroll, Hulu, Netflix, Crackle, Anime Network, NicoNico, AnimeNewsNetwork, legit Youtube channels, and VizMedia.

Will you license “insert Boys Love title?:  Funimation never licenses BL titles. Better to ask Nozomi Entertainment or Media Blasters.

Will add more soon.

Here is the official story on how I met my favorite voice actor.

Last Friday I went out to the bar that my friend is a doorman/bouncer at. I am not really big on going to clubs/bars as I tend to feel out of place. Thankfully I had a guy friend come with me so I would have someone to chat with. The club consists of two floors, one for dancing/live bands and one for relaxing/chilling. The bands were awful that night so we migrated downstairs to drink and chat.

While sipping on a rum and coke something familiar caught the corner of my eye. I looked over from the table across us to see a man. He had long hair, piercings, tattoos, and a cowboy hat that look so similar to one a certain voice actor always wore. I have been a fan of that VA since Beast Wars and Reboot first came out on TV. I then thought that he was just a lookalike, yet at the same time I was thinking “There is just no way someone could look and dress exactly like him”. I was hesistant upon going up to and asking if he was who I thought he was. I didn’t want to feel like a dumbass if I was wrong, but yet I was hopeful that it really was him.

I then saw him get up with a cigarette in his hand to go have a smoke. I used this opportunitey to get up from my seat and approach him. Here is what happened:

Me: …Scott McNeil?

Him: *stops* *looks from side to side* *looks at me curiously*

Me: *hopeful look*….Is that you?

Him: *he smiles and makes a “in the flesh” gesture*

Me: Oh. My. God!!

My heart was pounding so fast and my legs were shaking. It was really him. Scott McNeil. My idol and favorite VA since I was a child. 16 years I’ve been dying to meet him yet his panels would always be full at the conventions I attended where he was a guest. But there he was, standing in a bar I had decided to come drink and socialize at. I have a dream of one day getting into the voice acting business and Scott has been my inspiration because of how talented he is (and because he is truly a very nice guy). I watched so many shows that he did voices in and would be amazed on how he makes it difficult for people to identify him. I had no clue years ago that he did so many roles in Beast Wars and Dragon Ball Z.

There were lots of hugs, me squeeing and repeatedly saying “Oh my God!”, and him saying how honored he felt when I told him that I have been a fan of his since the early 90ies.

It was surely a bad time for my phone to be dead. I had brought my charger with me so I could charge my phone at work, yet I gave my charger to my roommate accidentally. Thankfully I got my friend, the doorman, to take a picture of me and Scott together.

After a few more hugs he then left to go have his smoke but said he would come chat with me later on. I went back to my table, big goofy smile plastered on my face, and my friends grinning at me. Doorman friend was laughing at how excited I was and kept asking me if I was ok while giving me a few hugs. I kept saying “Yes, No, Maybe” as my happiness and excitement scale was beyond the hundreds zone.

It was funny though as I had mentioned to doorman friend a week ago via texts about a talk I had with Greg Ayres via Facebook in regards to Anime and Piracy. I told him how I wasn’t a big fan of the English dub VA’s, but made an exception for Scott McNeil since I liked him long before I became a hardcore Anime fan. He didn’t think I was talking about the Vancouver VA Scott McNeil and so failed to mention that Scott frequently occupies the bar he works at. Yet I am glad he didn’t tell me that as I then would never had gotten the courage to go and talk to him. I can be pretty shy when meeting people.

Later on that night, Scott came over to my table to chat. My guy friend got up and went upstairs to give me some private time with my idol (plus the bar was coming to its closing time and he went to help doorman friend with the close up chores). Scott and I talked about Anime, other VA’s, and conventions. We talked for a good 30 minutes and it felt like I was chatting with an old friend. He also did Piccolo and Waspinator’s voice for me, which was so awesome and was exactly how I remembered them to be. I showed him my tattoo and he admired the work, asking me when and where I got it done.

Funny enough, he went and introduced me to one of the people at his table who was also a VA. It was Jocelyne Loewen, the voice of Merle from The Vision of Escaflowne. We exchanged pleasentries and also had a few group hugs. Jocelyne laughed and said “I like this one!”. It was so awesome. If only I could have gotten a group picture, but alas.

It was finally time to leave as the bar was officially closed. I asked Scott if he would be ok with giving me his autograph before I left. He was more then happy to. I only had a scrap piece of paper that my friend gave me when I said I really wanted Scott’s autograph, but it was more then enough.

It was seriously one of the best nights I have ever had. I was floored at the fact that doorman friend knew him personally. Plus I never thought I would meet my idol at a bar. I figured I would have better chances at a con, but boy was I wrong.

My giddiness has yet to die down and I still can’t help but smile when I think back on when Scott and I merrily chatted together. It was truly awesome and I will never forget it for the rest of my life.

I was able to get quite a few things recently thanks to stumbling across a seller on eBay selling a massive amount of boxsets for low prices. Here are some sets that I managed to snag:

Avenger the Complete Series. Limited Edition

I heard about this series years ago and never had a chance to check it out. I then found it on eBay for a really good price and picked it up. I like how it comes in a steelbook case and comes with a few DVD goodies. I look forward to watching this series.

Next up!:

Strike Witches – The Complete Series

Ok, this series looks so gosh darn cute. I couldn’t resist getting a copy of this. Might be watching it as soon as it comes in the mail.

Next up!:

Spice and Wolf – Season One Complete

Blind buy for this series. I don’t really know much about it except that its apparently good. I shall have to see for myself. 🙂

Next up!:

Eden of the East – Complete Series

Oh my good God, I finally got a copy of this! I’ve been trying for months yet I didn’t want to cough up $40 for it. I mean, the series only as 11 episodes. $40 is a ridiculous amount to pay for a short series. I found it for the price I was willing to pay and now can look forward to watching this on my TV.

Next up!:

Shuffle – The Complete Series

I constantly say that I hate harem anime shows, yet I continue to buy them as some of them can be enjoyable to watch (like Kanon 2006). They must be secretly slipping something into my drinks. Either way, it was only $15 for the set and its hard to say no to bargains. If its bad then I can sell it off, like I once did with Moeyo Ken.

Next up!:

Slayers Revolution (Season 4) Complete

They’reeeeeee back! I remember watching Slayers before I even entered High School. I couldn’t believe they brought out new seasons after almost 10 years since Season 3 came out. I also love Megumi Hayashibara (Lina’s seiyuu) and was ecstatic when I heard that she would be returning to doing Lina’s voice. This series is definitely nostalgic for me.

Next up!:

Slayers Evolution-R (Season 5) Complete

Again, nostalgic series. Nuff said.

And last, but not least:

Black Butler Season One: Part 1

Literally, helllllll yes! I don’t fangirl over anime men much, yet Sebastian is an exception. Devilish butler is indeed very delicious. Strangely enough, I have no idea if I bought the Limited Edition or regular version. Guess I’ll find out when it arrives in the mail. I have already watched half of the this show via fansubs, but I’d be more then happy to watch it again because of Sebby-chan being in it. :3  <end of fangirl moment>

Ahem….anyway. That is all for now! I had most of my items, from my last purchases entry, come in the mail this week. The Gurren Lagann limited edition movie sets are very drool worthy. I enjoyed watching the different scenes that weren’t shown in the TV series and marveled over how shiny the boxes they came in are. I’ll be sure to do a DVD review of them soon (need to also do one for Romeo X Juliet and Mushi-shi.

Till next time!

So Anime Expo (long-time running anime convention) has decided to do cash awards this year for most of their events. One of them being the AMV contest….

Ok, so…what’s wrong with that your probably thinking. Well, for starters, copyright infringement is what’s wrong with this. It is one thing to award cash prizes for works that you yourself made from scratch. However, AMV making is not something that you make from scratch. You take footage from an anime series (either from DVDs you bought or by bittorents), music from a CD (again, from purchased CD or bittorents), and use video editing programs (yet again, buying or pirating). Now the problem here is that you are technically stealing the footage and the music, unless you get permission from the artists themselves to use their works, and making money off it. What’s even more concerning is that AX claims that they won’t be held responsible if you were to get busted by the feds for taking works without the original creator’s permission. I find that pretty irresponsible of them and it raises questions as to why they are even allowed to be offering such prizes in the first place.

What is even more concerning is that I read on a forum about some people saying “Oh, I’m going to go quit my job now and make AMV’s for a living!”. I feel that this is going to ruin AMV’s for everyone, especially if legal action were to be taken against the AMV creators and/or the convention community. From my understanding, AMV’s are made by fans to show off their love for the show (or to brag about how they are skilled at video editing) and that they don’t make money off their works. But now I’m reading on the AMV forums that people think that offering up money will help “encourage them to make their AMV’s even better”. Seriously now? I thought that your love/passion for the shows would be enough encouragement. I think the best reward is the audience’s positive reaction to your creation.

I myself love watching AMV’s, having made one myself years ago, and would attend the contests held at the conventions I go to. Yet, I now worry about it being taken away from us now that money is involved. Its one thing to give out a custom made trophy, or some goodies like an anime boxset, but to pay the AMV’s creators for their creations is no different then paying pirates for bootleg anime DVDs. I don’t know who came up with this ridiculous idea, but I hope that it gets scrapped. I see a terrible future ahead for AMV contests at conventions.

Moving on to my next rant. I love to buy anime on DVD when I can afford to. I even plan to build up a Blu-ray collection once DVDs start to die off. However, I’ve become concerned for the price range on Blu-rays. This being one: Kara no Kyoukai – the Garden of sinners.
Summary from ANN: Mikiya Kokuto finds himself intrigued by two things. The first is by Shiki Ryougi a beautiful, yet rather unsociable, girl and the other is the strange series of violent deaths that start occuring in his town. As he attempts to get closer to Shiki, he soon learns that the two are connected and that there are many supernatural forces at work which could very likely get him killed as well.
Ok, the box it comes in and the disc art are very pretty. But $400 for 7 movies? That costs almost the same as my monthly rent. I refuse to pay $60 for a movie and I was surprised when I heard about this set being sold out before its actual release date. What’s even worse is that the chances of a regular DVD release are pretty slim, so now I have to resort to watching fansubs if I ever want to see this (which I do want to see very much).
There have been mixed comments about the price, some saying its reasonable and others saying not so much, but I, personally, find this product to be grossly over-priced. I may be a collector (someone actually scoffed at me claiming to be a collector because I’m apparently not “hardcore” enough to hold the title) but I can’t afford to be that extreme. Plus I much rather own it on DVD.

And this, ladies and gentlemen of the anime fandom community, is the end of my Anime rants.

I have once again expanded my collection with new goodies. Got some really awesome deals and great shows to add onto my shelf. Can’t wait for them to turn up in the mail. 😀

Now to show off my spoils. First up, we have: Gurren Lagann Movies 1 and 2!

And yes, they are the limited edition versions. I wanted the music videos too and that is why I didn’t go for the regular version. Plus look at all the goodies you get with it. 😀

Next: Hell Girl: Three Vessels Collection 1 and 2

Finally got these! I have season 1 and 2 of this series and been waiting to grab these for a good price. The art on the sets are so pretty. *happy sigh*

Next: D.Gray-Man Season 2 Part 1 and 2

Holy mackerel, these took me a frigging long time to get. I wasn’t willing to pay $40 per half season and waited till I found a cheaper option. Finally did and can now rejoice. If only Funi would pick up the rest of this show. T-T

Next: My-Zhime: My-Otome 0 S.ifr

I love the My-Hime/Otome series. I own both series and the My-Otome Zwei OAVs DVD. This was the only one missing from my collection.

Next: Gintama Collection 3

I heard that this show was really funny, so I’ve been collecting it for future viewing.

Next: The Wallflower Complete Collection (S.A.V.E Edition)

Wasn’t fond of the manga much, but the anime was strangely amusing. It was cheap so why the hell not?

Next: Moon Phase Complete (Viridian Collection)

Neko Mini Mode, nya? Hopefully the anime is better then the manga.

Next: Tokyo Majin Complete Collection (S.A.V.E Edition)

Blind buy. Nuff said.

Next: True Tears Complete (Anime Legends)

Another blind buy.

Next up: Vampire Knight Complete

What can I say? I love Vampire series. Watched some of this online and now purchased it. Look forward to finishing it.

Next: FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood Part 3

I love FMA. I love it very very much. I own the first series, the movie, the Premium collection, and almost all the manga books. This series is AMAZING. Definitely one of my all time favorite series.

Next: Dragon Ball Z Kai Part 3

Oh DBZ, how I used to love you very much back in my teen years. This series has been slowly reviving my love for the show thanks to lack of filler episodes.

And there you have it. Tune in next time for another New Anime DVD purchase update. ^^

I recently finished watching all of Oreimo on the week-end. I don’t know what it is about the show but I can’t help but love it. Its definitely not the greatest of shows but it is pretty entertaining. The reason I love this show might be due to the fact that I, too, love anime/video games/cosplay. This kinda makes me relate to Kirino when she says that they are a part of her. I feel the same as her because anime has been in my life since I was 10 years old (almost 16 years!).

The one thing that bothers me about the show is Kirino’s bitchy/selfish attitude. If I were to treat my big sister the same way Kirino treated Kyousuke, my sister would lay a WWE smack down on me. They were acting more like a highschool couple then siblings. Kyousuke did so much for her that most of the time he would suffer serious consequences (like his own father punching him in the face when he lied and said the adult game belonged to him and not Kirino). I also blame Kyousuke for not having a spine and not putting his foot down to Kirino’s constant, and rather selfish, demands.

Other then my little rant above about the main characters, I look forward to watching the extra episodes that are coming out in the Spring/Summer. I give this show 3.5 out of 5 stars and recommend this to people who are passionate about anime like me.

Moving on. I am now watching two new shows (along with Hetalia Season 2 and Romeo X Juliet from my DVD collection). They are: “Kore wa Zombie Desu ka?” and “Toaru Majutsu no Index II”.

First up: Kore wa Zombie Desu ka?

Remember boys and girls. Crossdress cosplaying at school will result in your classmates taking pictures of you for possible blackmailing in the future.

My first impression was “Oh boy, is this going to be another emo anime series?” when I just heard the title of the show. Got down to watching an episode a few nights ago, and it got some chuckles out of me. Who would have thought that a magical girl’s choice of weapon would be a pink chainsaw? Also, the Vampire Ninja girl is rather hot despite her rude/bitchy attitude. Necromancer (Eucliwood Hellscythe) is pretty cute too (and no, not cause of Ayumu’s fantasies of her calling him “Onii-chan”). Haruna is annoying so far and makes me not have much to say about her. Ayumu……wow. He is in the same misfortune department as Kamijou Touma. Classmates snapping photos at Ayumu for unintentionally being dressed in Haruna’s magical girl clothes? Ouch. Sucks to be him! XD
All in all, I’ll be watching this show to the end. I am amused so far.

Currently on Episode 3.

Next up: Toaru Majutsu no Index II

Why do I feel like Misaka is trying to hypnotize Touma in this scene? “ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNO-MISAKA!”.

I really loved watching the first season of this show. I have yet to watch Railgun because I wanted to continue on with season 2. The story, the music (love Mami Kawada/KOTOKO music), the characters, and everything else is hard not to like (ok, except for Kuroko as she is bleeping annoying). Index is so frigging adorable and Touma is hilarious (poor guy though). I am curious as to how that one Sister (new character named Agnese Sanctis) is able to get away with wearing a short nun dress. Aren’t nuns suppose to cover up their flesh completely?! And those ridiculously tall shoes. Seeing her walk in them makes me cringe at the thought of how painful that would become.

This series/franchise has got me completely hooked and I will be buying the series when its available in Canada/US (yes folks, Funimation has licensed the first season of Index and Railgun).

Currently on Episode 2.

“Don’t give me that look just cause I have a little sister fetish!”

After being skeptical about trying this series, I decided what the hell and gave it a shot. I was under the impression that this show was just about a boy who has a little sister that is an otaku (Anime/Manga freak). That alone didn’t get me interested in watching the show. The buzz from the AnimeNewsNetwork forums did finally pique my interest in the show. However, after watching episode 1, I could not believe what I was watching. Not only is Kirino addicted to anime/videos, she has a little sister fetish. Say whaaaaa? Totally did not expect that.

Putting that aside, I can’t stop watching this now. I’m interested to see how this progresses and I really love hearing the opening song (damn you, catchy J-pop songs!). Plus the character designs are so cute. I wonder, however, if anyone would ever license this. They might be reluctant due to the suggestive incest themes. I’d still buy it though cause I’m just that geeky when it comes to anime. XD

Current episode: 4. There’s No Way My Little Sister Would Go To Summer Comiket

I just finished watching the entire series of Ah! My Goddess last week and thought of a fun thing to do. I will show pictures of the boxsets I own, after watching the entire thing, and share my thoughts on the series.

Here is a front and back pic of the boxset:

What it looks like inside:

And the discs (6 Volumes in total):

For those who have never seen, or even heard of this show, here is the summary for it:

“Keiichi Morisato is looking forward to university life. But in reality, he has no luck in anything, and he has trouble with clubs, love, etc. The truth is that he has an unlucky star above his head. One day, Keiichi is stuck watching the dorm while his sempai are away, and has a mountain of chores to do to boot. But Keiichi is a good-natured person, and is set about doing his duties. As he is about to finish his final chore, he makes a phone call to his sempai. But the words that came through the receiver are, ‘Goddess Help Line.’ Shortly afterwards, a beautiful goddess named Belldandy appears in front of him from the mirror of his room.”

I liked Oh! My Goddess OVA series and the movie back in the 90ies. I also enjoyed reading the manga despite the fact that I technically was too young to read it (I was only 11 when I started reading it and it is definitely not for children). I was then excited when I heard of a new TV series coming out in 2005 and immediately watched the fansub version as soon as it came out. However, I was slightly disappointed with the character designs. I thought Belldandy looked gibbled and Keiichi didn’t look much like Keiichi (he looked older despite being a college student). I gave up watching it after episode 1 because I couldn’t get used to the new character designs.

5 years later, I decided to give the series another chance. I am trying not to view things on-line when they are available for purchasing so I bought the complete series, from my anime dealer, for $10 brand new. During a ferry ride to the island, to visit my family, I sat down and watched a few episodes on my laptop. 5 episodes later, I was hooked. The designs grew on me and I couldn’t help but find the epsiode stories heartwarming and cute. Urd has become one of my favorite characters due to her sexiness and badassness. At times I felt sorry for Keiichi for trying his best to keep the Goddesses’s true identities a secret. Yet the outcomes can be pretty funny, especially when the minor characters are left scratching their heads over certain, abnormal, circumstances that occur during the series (like Keichii sprouting massive boobs thanks to Skuld).

I highly recommend this series if you like cute, mushy, magical girl, love stories with a dash of comedy.

My Ratting: A

Ta da!

Love my collection. Can’t wait to get new 2011 Anime releases. 😀

I have been seeing so many debates on whether fansubs/scanlations are killing the anime industry. Personally? I see them doing them more good then harm. Yes, you get some people who are too cheap to buy the DVDs or the manga when they are brought over to the United States. However, there are tons of people who would buy them for the sake of their collection or to support the industry. I admit I was guilty for buying Bootlegs (Yes I know, shame on me, but I didn’t know the difference between bootlegs and legit DVDs.) yet I learned the error of my ways and gone straight for buying the legits. I still buy manga books too even after reading the scanlations online. If it weren’t for fansubs or scanlations, I wouldn’t have gotten over half of the things that I own now (with the exception of CLAMP titles as I am and always will be a CLAMP consumer whore).

It has been 2 years now since I went clean and started collecting official anime DVDs, instead of cheating and going for Bootlegs. I still watch fansubs, of course, as I feel that they do help with getting the word out for anime. Yet if the series gets licensed, and I happened to enjoy watching the fansub, I would definitely buy the series for my collection. I am now down to owning one Bootleg boxset, which would be Sailor Moon Stars. As soon as it gets licensed (or if ever) I’d be happy to be rid of it and buy the official.

To sum it up, here is a break down for my DVD collection:

50% from watching the fansub version.
20% from when I watched them on official released VHS tapes long before DVDs were created.
9% from when I read the manga and patiently waited for the anime version to release on DVD.
19% blind buy.
1% R2 release.
1% Bootlegs.

As for my manga collection:

40% from reading scanlations online.
35% blind buys.
15% from when I watched the anime and wanted to read the manga version.
10% were recommendations from friends.

Funny how it all boils down to most of my buys are due to watching/reading stuff online. I am pretty tempted to make an actual list of the stuff I bought due to fansubs/scanlations. But I think I’ll save that for another time. 😛

My advice to you downloaders is the following: Support the industry if you like a specific title! Did you enjoy watching Soul Eater? Go buy it then! I watched it on Fansubs and then bought it immediately when it was available. Just, please, don’t get tricked into buying a bootleg. It may sound cheaper, but you get what you pay for. Plus the money does not go to the industry, only to the people who pirated that show.

Buying boots = Anime R1 releases dying a slow and painful death.
